The
Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine Vol. 16, 4th Quarter 2001 - ABSTRACT
Preventing Post Partum Depression:A
Case Report, Richard Malter, Ph.D.
During
the past ten years, we have read or heard about mothers who became violent
and, in bizarre ways, killed one or more of their children. Many of these
women were prescribed anti-depressants following the birth of a child
and the onset of a post partum depression (PPD). In many cases, these
mothers have been described as loving, caring, and well functioning women
who were given prescriptions for antidepres-sant medications, especially
one of the serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) types such as Prozac®
or Zoloft.®
There is
strong reason to believe that these SSRI anti-depressant drugs can radically
alter the functioning of a person's brain chemistry and lead to changes
in think-ing, emotional reactions, and behavior resulting in homicidal
and/or suicidal violence. Continue reading at: http://orthomolecular.org/library/jom/2001/abstracts/2001-v16n04-p213.shtml

Naturopathic
Nutrition: A Guide to Nutrient-rich Food & Nutritional Supplements
for Optimum Health by Abram Hoffer, Jonathan,
Dr. Prousky
The authors identify the nutritional deficiencies and dependencies
caused by our ‘junk-food’ diet that lead to malnutrition
and other serious dietary diseases. They recommend a diet that is
whole, alive, fresh, and varied, rather than processed, dead, stale,
and monotonous. The book features a 12-step program for developing
an individualized diet and a 30-page section on the nutrient content
of common foods, and is fully referenced, based on the most current
research. This book is part of the Naturopathic Good Health Guides
Series of patient care and consumer health books designed to introduce
naturopathic medicine to the general public.

Dr. Abram Hoffer is a founding father of the complementary and alternative
health movement. His pioneering research in vitamin B-3 and vitamin
C therapy for diseases and disorders inspired Nobel laureate Linus
Pauling to publish his ground-breaking Vitamin C and the Common
Cold and How to Live Longer and Feel Better.
Dr. Jonathan
Prousky is Asst. Prof. of Clinical Nutrition and Chief Medical Officer
at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He graduated from
Bastyr U. in Seattle and completed his training at National Naturopathic
College in Portland, Oregon. |

Dr.
Hoffer's ABC of Natural Nutrition for Children: With Learning Disabilities,
Behavioral Disorders, and Mental State Dysfunctions
by Abram Hoffer
Review
by Andrew Saul, Ph.D.: "A riddle: how many years does it take
for a new way of treating behavior disorders in children to be generally
accepted? The answer is forty, according to Abram Hoffer, M.D, Ph.D.
There are few physicians who have sufficient experience to personally
validate such a claim, but Dr. Hoffer can. He pioneered megavitamin
research and treatment back in the early 1950's, and, half a century
later, has still been largely ignored by the medical profession.
Why? Because Dr. Hoffer treats ADHD kids with vitamins. And, he
gets results." Continue

& Psychological Treatments
by Abram Hoffer

hope for children with ADD and behavioral disorders. Food allergies
and nutrient deficiency are the predominant causes of chronic attention
and behavior disorders, says Dr. Hoffer, who has treated over 2,000
children. Nutritional therapy is superior to pharmaceutical, psychotherapeutic,
and surgical intervention in treating these disorders. Nutritional
therapy for both physical and mental illness restores well-being
with a combination of optimum nutrition from common foods and vitamin
and mineral supplements. Featured are comprehensive
